I don't mind that if I can get into a top 20 MBA program. But is it worth waiting to get into a top 20 program vs. taking the offer that I currently have. I would be a career changer..from engineering to consulting. I am not sure how feasible it would be to do so at program outside top 25. I know there are a lot of factors that I need to consider. For example- location, money etc. but I am struggling to convince myself to go to a lower ranked school and hoping that I won't regret it later.

Although age is an important factor, it is not the end of the world. Such a dillemma is staring at my face in these days and forced me to look over all details and review my life expactations once again. I appreciate that Full $$ seems appealing and luscious but as you pointed out, without being accepted to a program out of top 25 your career aim might not be ended but could probably be jeopardized. If being accepted to a top 20 MBA program is your dream, I voted for following your dreams and never give up. Do not embrace the risk of feeling regretful throughout your life for money. And if you have been waitlisted by Tuck, it means you have your own merits and talents. By strengthing your profile (GMAT, WE or something else) in six months, you will be a strong candidate for top 20.

I currently have an offer from Georgia Tech (Scheller) with full scholarship and GA. I am also on the WL at Tuck. Tuck got back to me and said that my GMAT score could be improved. So I am planning to retake the GMAT this month in order to better my 710 score. I am in a dilemma whether to go with Georgia Tech if Tuck doesn't work out or wait another year and reapply to top 20 schools. I am interested in strategy consulting post-MBA. I am also an international candidate working in the US, so the scholarship money is important but the opportunities you get with a top 20 MBA are much better. I am a 29 year old engineer and have about 3.5 years of full time work ex. I did a Master's and did an internship for about a year, therefore the lower full-time work ex. Any advice on the factors I need to consider while making this decision will be appreciated.

It is strange that Tuck ask for higher GMAT. While this is a room for improvement, 710 is not that bad. Maybe they want you to compensate for the few years for experience. Tuck class profile GMAT 670-750. if you decide to apply next year, what other schools you consider in the top 20?

You still have an opportunity to apply next year in other schools. If you planned well and choose the best fit, you may secure place in good schools.

I am thinking Ross, Cornell, Kellogg, Booth, Tepper, Tuck and Emory.

great schools. i may advise you to add UNC and Duke to the list to open more. Try to visit top 20 schools websites and study the employment reports. There are common feeders to consulting especially MBB.
I believe you can wait one more year. I think you can reinforce your GMAT, although I do not think it is that low. Your GMAT 710 can serve a good base for other schools. I do not know whether you are Indian but, I understand that, as my Indian friends told me, the competition among Indian students is fierce because of huge Indian applicants, compared to other nationalities.

Wish you the best
