I am choosing Executive MBA program from Wharton and Sloan. Both are great programs, but they are sort of Apple and Orange to me. I listed differences below.
Time requirement: Wharton EMBA is THE undiluted MBA program. The amount of coursework at Wharton EMBA is very similar to FTMBA. Students attend weekend classes every other weeks, and spend 20-25 hours outside the class.
MIT Sloan EMBA students usually spend 10-20 hours every week, and they attend weekend class once every three weeks.
CurriculumWharton offers half of the classes as electives. Students can choose electives from 200 classes (although they narrow down to 30 classes after voting) in their 2nd year.
Most of the courses at Sloan are core courses, and students can take up to 4 electives from a limited electives.
Program strengthWharton is known for Finance, but also good at almost all other fields.
Sloan EMBA is focused on general management, but MIT is really good at Tech and Entrepreneurship.
CommunityWharton is Wharton. Wharton school is kind of separated from UPenn community.
Sloan is MIT Sloan. Sloan students have access to MIT campus and participate in the community activities.
Student profileStudents at Wharton EMBA are younger, averaging 35 years old with 11 years WE. Students are more diversified by industry, and more motivated to learn new knowledge.
Students at MIT EMBA are more senior, some of them are C-suite officers at big firms, averaging 39 years old with 19 years WE. More students in Healthcare sector.
About me- mid-thirty
- tech/finance background
- manager in a startup finance company
- looking to grow the finance business in current firm after EMBA program
I like Wharton for it's undiluted MBA experience, electives and more prestige brand. MIT was my dream school in the technology world, but I have a strong tech background and working in business now. Wharton can probably diversity my skills. Which school would you choose? Thank you.
