Hi all,
I just got accepted to both Kellogg and Haas' part time MBA programs and have a bit of a hard time deciding but I'm leaning towards Haas.
I'm 28, work at a boutique management consultancy as a project manager, and currently live in SF but I'm from Chicago originally. I have the option to transfer to the Chicago office of my current company.
In general, my current profile is in international business and that is where I see myself continuing to head. I work quite a bit with foreign healthcare and tech companies, and can see myself either working at a tech company in a few years or at a top management consultancy after my current role.
I'd like to eventually move back to Chicago say within five years, but sticking around in the Bay Area for another 2.5-3 years is also attractive. I'm aware that Haas' network isn't as strong in Chicago compared to the west coast. And I'm aware that Kellogg is M7 and has a stronger name in consulting and international business. I do like the cohort nature and small size for the Haas EWMBA program though. I've gotten a really good sense for Haas' culture, whereas I haven't for Kellogg. In terms of developing a networking and connections for life through the program, I get the impression that Haas is stronger. Kellogg feels a bit bigger and busier- especially their loop campus in comparison to the Haas building in Berkeley.
Ironically, I've heard from a few people in Chicago that a Haas degree might be more attractive than Kellogg for some companies in Chicago, just because a Kellogg degree is pretty prevalent there and Haas is a strong brand that some would find interesting or "exotic". One other positive for Haas is that it seems that their career services aren't as walled off to part time students as Kellogg's are. I know at Kellogg you need to get your current employer's permission first in order to participate in OCR for instance.
Basically some have told me that Kellogg's brand is too strong to pass up, and others have said that I cant go wrong with either and its more my personal preference. Anything I'm missing or should also consider that I haven't? Would be great to hear some more opinions.
