Hi guys,
I am thankful for having learned a lot about MBA application by lurking in GMAT Club, and have been fortunate to translate those learnings into admission in Wharton and Kellogg. I got scholarships from both schools (difference is $45k) and am now considering the 2 schools before the Feb deposit deadline.
Summary of my situations:
- Ex-MBB (4 years)
- International students, looking to work for several years in the US before moving back to Asia in the long term
- Post-graduation, want to work in Product Management / General Management in Tech in West Coast (preferably Cali)
- Having talked with alumni from both schools and I believe I can fit well in both in terms of culture / lifestyle
- Slightly prefer East Coast location more because of proximity to NYC + I have studied undergrad in Midwest already
The questions I am having in mind:
- Does Wharton's marginal reputation make up for the $45K difference?
- In terms of Tech recruitment, which school has an edge?
- Other than recruitment, other factors to help getting a job in Tech (classes, clubs, alumni,...) which school is better?
- In Asia, which school has better brand name / alumni network?

Wharton stereotype is finance of course and if you were going for PE or IB, that would be the place to go. I feel the caliber of recruiters will be similar at Wharton and Kellogg, with perhaps a bit more exclusivity and cache at Wharton since it is the top Finance school and is the official Top 3. Kellogg is slightly smaller but likely will have more focus on Tech as Wharton will have more people zeroed in on Finance.
My main argument would be for what happens when you move abroad and whether Kellogg's name is known. Usually, it is not and Wharton has a much stronger brand outside of the US (and even in the US, it is a stronger name). Is it worth $45k - I am not sure.
Both schools put the same number of folks into Tech Jobs (W: 96 and K: 91). However, K's is smaller program of about 500 vs. 800 at Wharton so in terms of %, Kellogg definitely has a lot more focus on Tech and West coast. Both programs send about the same number of folks to the west coast 130 or so (indicator of the Tech focus).

given your goals, I don't think Wharton is worth the extra $45K here.
