OK... things took a huge turn yesterday! I got the admission to Cornell! I am surprisingly getting admitted to whatever program I have applied, now thinking if I should have also applied to top 5 just to see if this always holds true!!
I posted these topics previously:
https://gmatclub.com/forum/mendoza-vs-k ... s#p2489668https://gmatclub.com/forum/rotman-vs-ke ... s#p2489336The results:
- The best fit will be Kelley considering the financial aspects (the cost, ROI, higher compensation post-grad). downside: I will face difficulty in getting a greencard or H1B (international student). I should change my goals more toward general/supply chain management( which is not such a huge downside). I cannot rely much on companies for on-campus recruitment.
- Rotman is the best fit in terms of immigration, being in a huge city with lots of opportunities, and career aspirations are aligned( my future goals: consulting in a reputable firm, even if not MBB). downside: Will have to settle for less long term income and spend around 20k more for the program.
Other facts:
- Kelley (50%) Rotman (15%) Cornell (0) scholarship
- I can fund Kelley myself, maybe also Rotman if I borrow a bit from parents. But will go under serious student debt for Cornell around 120k!(fortunately Quorum will lend me that money although I come from an OFAC sanctioned country)
Now the question: Is an "Ivy Leauge" "Cornell" brand name worth going under that huge loan? in other words, where does Cornell stand in terms of compensation post-grad (considering the loan payback) and chances of being recruited by a good consulting firm? I am not a big believer in employment report median salaries, an experienced person is much more reliable I guess.
I know that an MBA is not about the acquired skills. instead, the network and the brand name and being affiliated with a famous and respected school will pull you up the ladder, and the ladder is more like an elevator when the program is Ivy League! so instead of starting from 0 and getting to 10 in five years with a ladder, I should start from -5 and get to 15 with an elevator! or am I wrong?
