Hi Everyone!
I am grateful to have several options to choose from to start my MBA journey. In terms of scholarships, more specifically, the schools are giving me the following amount:
- Anderson - 80k
- Tepper - 40k
- Ross - 20k
I am currently leaning towards either Haas or Anderson, with a deeper leaning towards Haas, if not for the scholarship offered by Anderson.
Considerations
I am aiming for a tech PM role at a Big Tech firm post-MBA based in California. On top of the tech focus of Haas and Anderson, I would also appreciate the more comfortable weather as I am from a country with a tropical and sunny climate. On all other fronts except cost, I feel that Haas is stronger than Anderson. I feel more connected to the university's values and community, and I feel that Haas has a stronger brand internationally (I am from SEA). However, as I intend to attend with my wife and an infant, cost becomes a major factor as well, as based on conservative estimates, it will add an additional USD 60k, which is nicely offsetted by the Anderson scholarship but will weight heavily if I attend Haas.
Questions for Forum
Hence, I would really appreciate inputs on the following:
1. Is it reasonable and worth to try to negotiate a scholarship with Haas using the scholarship from Anderson?
2. If I don't get a scholarship from Haas, which program should I attend?

I don't know how you feel about negotiating a scholarship. It may be worth an email or two.
I think since you do have $80K at Anderson, you can easily approach Ross to match some of it. (I would not worry about Tepper at the moment or perhaps someone thinks otherwise?) Anyway, I would approach Ross alone and only Ross and see what they can do. You can also approach Stern - they are very expensive being in the NYC. Then once you have thoroughly robbed that train and make sure nobody had any more pennies stashed away in their pockets (sorry, could not resist the old west analogy; poor schools), I would then approach Haas with Anderson and Ross offers on display and see what they can muster. The key is to have a plan and not act rashly. There is no harm in asking esp since you have a family and that's a great point to bring up - send a photo of your baby - nobody will say "no" to a baby photo

P.S. Schools are slow during this time so it may take a week or three to hear back about the scholarship.
As to you and your family life and adjustment, moving from a large SEA city, LA or Bay Area may be a bit easier to transition with ample Asian stores and communities. Not that you want to borrow yourself into those and live in chinatown the whole time never venturing out - that would be a mistake, but it is nice to get some nice dumplings once in a while and favorite food and have company and easily fit in. CA would be easier but schools do a decent job of integrating their families into communities so it would not be terrible at Tepper or Ross by any means, just no Din Tai Fung or Silverlake Ramen

Thanks for the advice and the link!
While approaching Ross to get a bigger scholarship to then negotiate for a better on at Haas sounds like a plan that might work, wouldn’t I burn bridges if they give me a higher scholarship but I still reject it? Haha I am not sure if you are serious about the baby photo though. Perhaps, it can help as ‘evidence’ of having a family hahaha.
Yes, having that proximity to asian food supermarkets and restaurants will really help. I am more concerned about my wife’s well being as she doesn’t enjoy western flavours, so being far from good asian restaurants or ingredients might take a toll on her (despite her being awesome and supporting me no matter where we go). Otherwise, we would definitely enjoy exploring other areas for the scenes/activities as we can be quite adventurous.
