Hi everyone,
I am fortunate to have received offers from all three programs I applied to. I am targeting IB for my post-MBA career but am also interested in consulting if the internship is enough to sway me away from the IB lifestyle. I am an international student so visa issues also influenced my post-MBA decisions.
Pre-MBA career: Data analytics.
Post-MBA goals: IB BB (NY but open to other locations) or MBB strategy consulting (no office preference - maybe Chicago).
I believe Tuck will offer me a higher scholarship amount. The $20K offered was the initial offer before sharing my other scholarship offers. Although they will not match the other offers, I expect their offer to be increased (maybe $40K).
Community is important to me. I want to join a network of people I can legitimately reach out to in the future. Especially as an international student. International recognition is also important in case I am not able to remain in the US in the long run. I guess this pertains to both the reputation of the university and post-MBA employers. Lastly, I want to enjoy the social aspect of this experience and have some fun (trips, outings, etc.).
I am more realistically deciding between Tuck and Darden. Darden's offered scholarship is quite substantial. Tuck's institutional loans, however, would help finance this experience at a much lower rate than that offered by private lenders. Even if the associated interest benefits do not offset the difference in scholarship amounts, it is worth noting. I think the Ivy League prestige might be worth the difference. People around me (professional and personal contexts) were happy to hear about Darden but their excitement was mostly due to the scholarship news, not the school itself. Whereas the reaction I have received to sharing my admittance to Tuck has been always followed by the recognition of the university (always an Ivy League comment, always). My new supervisor has even developed a huge level of trust in me from the go. Often reaching out in private to ask for my opinion over that of my colleagues and celebrating my contributions in front of others. It has honestly been very weird to experience this.
I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for sharing a bit of details about your current choices. It’s funny how we sometimes don’t know what we have until we lose it or don’t know how something is valuable until someone else wants it. I can suddenly see that in your supervisor.
Darden is a solid program for investment banking. They’ve always had a connection and a strong recruiting path into IB firms in New York so I feel you would be in a good spot at Darden.
Of course, Tuck is a very special program with a very dear and special community and it’s unique in many ways.
On paper, Darden is a solid choice for IB with a strong offer… it places more people into finance and investment banking than Tuck, about double that of Tuck actually. Tuck’s big focus has been Consulting. While for Darden consulting is #2 placement (historically at least).
It seems the trade-off would be between brand/community (and potentially disappointing your boss) vs value and employment pathway. I do feel that you are slightly underestimating Darden. I know the location is not ideal and I know it’s surprising about its strong connection to the investment banking community but it’s a pretty darn good school. The only reason I would see skipping Darden is the case study method. Some people really dislike it or uncomfortable about it but it has its value and it has its benefits….

What I hear from my candidates based on their discussions with current students is quite revealing. I won't try puncturing your optimism about specific schools but would encourage you to speak with more students, in case you already haven't - this time focusing on community aspects. It could matter and sway your decision, especially if you have a partner / kids intending to join you.
IMHO, they are all great options and will take you whichever direction you wish to go. The STEM designation with get you over the visa issues (short term). Depending on what's your destination long term, the reputation of one school over another may well become irrelevant or be a point of indifference. Hence, this might be less of the worries / criteria in your school selection.
