Interested in consulting and technology. background is in technology and I was impressed with CMU's technical/ quantitative program. however, would like to live on the west coast and UCLA is definitely a more fun program. I went to a large undergrad on the east coast, and find the small class size at Tepper appealing.
Cost of living in Pittsburgh is also much more comfortable as someone unemployed.
What would you do? Fun or logic?

Logic. There are many tech companies hiring at Tepper and many students get a consulting job as well!

Tepper 120k is essentially 207k in SF vice versa, 140k in SF is 80k in Tepper. So if you go purely by the cost of living, you're getting a much better deal at Tepper. Plus, CMU is a tech powerhouse (mostly due to its ivy-league undergrads), so there will always be tech companies on the campus.
