Applying to HEC Paris MiM Do I Have a Real Chance? Seeking Honest Op

Hi everyone, Sorry to bother you with what might feel like a silly question, I know many of us probably go through the same doubts when applying, and most of the time there’s no clear answer. Still, I just submitted my application for the MiM at HEC Paris, and I was hoping some of you could tell me whether my profile seems competitive. Here’s a quick overview: French, 20 years old GMAT Focus: 625 (weak quant at 74, stronger Reading 86 and Data Insights 83 - as scores not percentile

) Native English speaker; TOEFL iBT: 116 GPA 3.6 (3.3 in first year due to personal issues, then 3.9 and top 1% in second year — made the Dean’s List) Currently around 72nd percentile in the ESCP Bachelor in Management Internships: • 3 months as Assistant to the CEO of a French startup • 2 months in real estate investment International exposure (mostly travel, solo and with family) Hobbies: football, tennis, hiking I also noticed that when I sent my GMAT focus score, it showed my score was in the 64th percentile of all scores sent in the past 5 years. While part of me feels I have a reasonable chance, another part is convinced I don’t, that applying may have been pointless, and that I should already shift focus to other schools instead of getting my hopes up. If anyone has insight, experience, or simply an opinion, I would truly appreciate it. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this, and good luck to all of you who are applying as well!

Honestly, you should definitely be confident. Your profile is strong (especially with the ESCP background). I'm also aiming for HEC Paris, but I haven't even gotten my GMAT score yet, so you are already a step ahead of me.

Hey fellow HEC applicant,

I am also French and applying to HEC. From what I've heard it's near impossible for French citizens to get into the MiM without going through Prepa, engineering or the Institute of Engagement.

But nonetheless applying is always worth a shot. I've got a similar background as you so chances are we may either both get accepted or rejected lol

Yeah thats what i've been told too, they mostly favor international students for the MiM. Hopefully we both get in but will definitely be tuff, the only people i've seen who already got in were on LinkedIn with amazing engineering/business background from Morocco.

I've seen people with a profile similar to ours get admitted but they were all international. 
If it doesn't work out we can always fall back to ESSEC

Yeah i'll apply to ESSEC and INSEAD too for management, but for the MiF at ESCP too, which would likely be my second choice tbh

Makes sense. After hec mim/mif, the escp mif would be a much better choice than an essec or insead mim if your goal is high finance. However if you don't have experience in typical finance fields like IB/markets already it'll be difficult to enter.

Since you've done a bba in france it's quite unlikely you get into the MiM of a top 3 (unless you're an exceptional student). Insead MiM would be a solid fall back option.

So for your career goals:

Top tier: Hec mim/mif or Escp MiF
Second tier: insead/essec mim

Yeah the bachelor of ESCP is 3 years and in 3 different countries, but most students dont go back in the french system afterwards it seems.

Even seen someone do the MIT MiF after. Most do lse, lbs, Bocconi and so on usually. The French system doesn't make much sense. That's why I did my bachelor abroad which makes you international

Hi Guys i'm also french, to give you a comparaison, i postulated for the MIF at HEC as a Essec BBA (top 5% and gmat 675) and was rejected instantly, without any interview
