IIM Lucknow (IPMX – 1 Year MBA) Interview Debrief
Interview Location: IIM Lucknow – Noida Campus
Interview Type: Group Interview
Interview Slot: Morning slot, Saturday
Result: Admit (Did not accept due to personal reasons - this is last year's Personal Interview story - 2024)
Interview Panel
The interview panel consisted of
two professors:
- Professor 1: Sustainability Professor
- Professor 2: Faculty member from an unspecified discipline (focused more on people/leadership aspects)
Reporting & Waiting Experience
- Candidates were given specific reporting timings; mine was an early morning slot.
- Upon arrival, all candidates were seated in the waiting area in front of the reception.
- The order of interviews appeared to be based on qualifying scores received till that point, though this is an assumption.
- Waiting time can be long, so be mentally prepared.
Facilities:- A small canteen is located at the back of the campus where food is available.
- Most candidates prefer to stay seated in the waiting area.
- Since it was cold, tea was offered by the institute, which was a nice gesture.
Interview Questions & Discussion
Questions by the Sustainability Professor
Most questions were centered around
my work experience and application essays:
- Walk me through your work experience – companies, roles, and nature of work
- Discussion around projects I have worked on
- Deep dive into my application essays
- I had mentioned a corporate mistake in my essay and how it contributed to my professional growth – this became a key discussion point
- Follow-up questions focused on learning, reflection, and growth mindset
This part of the interview felt very
conversational and reflective.
Questions by the Second Professor
This professor focused more on
personal and people-oriented aspects:
- What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?
- I was quizzed for mentioning my global experience. What exactly did I solve. How did I gel with people for on-site opportunities
- Studying after 10 years is a big thing - have I thought it through. Personal arrangements I have made. Have I dropped my papers/ resignation etc
- One particularly interesting question:
Quote:
“Why would a mentor invest time and effort in your growth?”
This tested
self-awareness, leadership potential, and value creation, rather than technical knowledge.
Overall Interview Experience
- The interview was calm, structured, and largely driven by your application and essays.
- No stress-based questioning or rapid-fire technical questions.
- Compared to XLRI, I personally found this interview much easier and more conversational.
- I eventually received an admit, but chose not to accept it due to personal reasons. I plan to retake the GMAT and apply to other schools.
Dress Code & Final Tips
- Formal attire is strongly recommended.
- Most candidates (including women) wore full formal suits with proper shoes.
- Avoid half-formals (shirt + sweater). I wore a sweater over my outfit, which made me look slightly less formal than others.
- Dress well—it helps with confidence and first impressions.
Final Advice
- Know your application essays thoroughly—they will quiz you on them.
- Be honest about failures and clearly articulate learning outcomes.
- Prepare for introspective and leadership-oriented questions, not just work experience.
- Be patient during the waiting period and stay calm.
