GE Rotation program

Question

For those of you in the know. Is this program well regarded?
In general are rotation programs worth going to? Where do people end up afterwards?

GE's rotational program is one of the most highly regarded GM development programs out there.

I would second river's opinion. I work in one of GE's post-undergraduate programs now (EEDP) and it's very well-known in the industry. I think GE regularly wins awards for having the best rotational programs (both for undergrads and MBAs), so if you're looking to go into general management, it's a great place to end up.

I had drinks with a guy in their program. He seemed somewhat happy, but wasn't especially enthusiastic to be honest.

All the same, they are on my list of firms to talk to this year.

Let me a simple question... GE = General Electric?

If so, what does this program consist in? and above all, who can apply there? because it seems to be very interesting!

Silly question perhaps - but there are separate rotational programs for MBA hires and undergraduate hires, I presume?

I know someone (complete douche, by the way - now I'm wary of anyone coming out from that program!) who I think did the undergraduate variant of GE's management training program and that didn't really do much for his career.

I wonder if the MBA program is similar and the GE brand overshadows the actual quality of the rotational program? I'll admit I don't know much about these, so I'm just putting out my perceptions out there. What other companies have large rotational programs that are highly sought after?

GE has a similar program in India for MBAs. They recruit from only the top schools and hires get to travel across continents.

My girlfriend is an undergrad alum of the FMP (Financial Management Program) rotation at GE, so I can try to speak to it.

The program was as advertised. 4 6-month rotations through different GE businesses, along with supplemental course work that needs to be completed at night.

A couple things that aren't really advertised:

1) Unlike most corporate training programs, GE seriously cares about your grades in the classes. One of my girlfriend's coworkers was swamped at work, and didn't perform well in a class, and she was forced to retake it...essentially adding another 6 months to her FMP.

2) The rotation matching process is a massive source of stress. If you aren't on top of it, and not spending the time to build a network and know what you want, you will get stuck with bad rotations. Bad rotations could be ones that are working over New Years Eve (yes, even at GE), or could be rotations stuck in the middle of nowhere.

3) Post Rotational Program job matching - As a grad of the training program, you aren't guaranteed a job at GE. You still have to use your network (see point 2) to find the right role. You go through a competitive interview process, and there's always the chance that you won't land the job you want.

Overall, she liked the FMP program. She found a good role in Leveraged Finance after the program ended, and has been there for the past few years. Of course, GE is going through a massive restructuring, so a lot of jobs are at risk. I'm not sure what impact this will have on their training programs, but you might want to do a bit more digging before signing on with GE.
