Statement 1: x^2 + xy = 3
i.e. x(x+y) = 3
But we don't know whether x and y are integers or not hence
NOT SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: y^2 + yx = 5
i.e. y(x+y) = 5
But we don't know whether x and y are integers or not hence
NOT SUFFICIENT
Combining the two statements
x(x+y) = 3 and y(x+y) = 5
Adding both equations
\(x^2 + y^2 + 2xy = 3+5 = 8\)
i.e. \((x+y)^2 = 8\)
SUFFICIENT
Answer: Option C
