x + y = 12

Total Coins = 12
Statement 1: The total value of the 12 coins is $1.80.
There may be some coins other than Q and D hence
NOT SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: Tara has only quarters and dimes
No information about Q and D values or relation, hence
NOT SUFFICIENT
Combining the two statements:
25Q + 10D = 180
and Q + D = 12
Two linear equations. Solving them we get unique values of Q and D hence
SUFFICIENT
Answer: Option C
