A 6 litre solution is 45% alcohol. How many litres of pure alcohol must be added to produce a solution that is 50% alcohol ?
Let's say that 45% alcohol and 55 % water in the solution:
(If pure alcohol is added, the amount of water in the solution is not changed.)
\((\frac{55}{100})*6= (\frac{11}{20})*6= \frac{33}{10}=3.3\) liters water --> 3.3 liters water should be 50 % of a new solution.
if 50% of a solution is water, whole solution should be 6.6 liters
--> 6.6 -6 = 0.6 liters pure alcohol must be added.
The answer is A.
