Jijil, Savy, and Tes share an apartment that has a monthly rent of $150. If Savy pays twice as much as Jijil and Tes pays $30 more than Savy does, how much does Jijil pay each month?

A. $ 22
B. $ 24
C. $ 26
D. $ 28
E. $ 30

\(j + s + t = 150\)

\(s = 2j\)

\(t = s + 30\)

\(j + s + t = 150\)

Or,\( j + 2j + ( 2j + 30) = 150\)

Or, \(5j + 30 = 150\)

Or, \(5j = 120\)

Or, \(j = 24\), Hence Answer must be (B)

A. $ 22
B. $ 24
C. $ 26
D. $ 28
E. $ 30
Solution:

We can let x = the amount Jijil pays, so 2x = the amount Savy pays and 2x + 30 = the amount Tes pays. Since the total amount they pay is $150, we can create the equation:

x + 2x + 2x + 30 = 150

5x = 120

x = 24
