At a meeting, there are 6 sporting associations represented. Each association is allowed 1 delegate to attend the meeting, as well as 2 assistants. In how many ways can the persons attending the meeting be seated at a large round table if the assistants must sit on either side of the delegate in each case? (2 seating arrangements are considered different only when the positions of the people are different relative to each other.)

There are a total of 6 delegates and 12 assistants.
Between every 2 delegates there are 2 spaces, as it will seat 1 assistant of each delegate.
The 6 delegates can be seated in (6 - 1)! = 5! = 120 ways
For every seat that a delegate sits, his 2 assistants can sit on either side in 2 ways.
Total number of arrangements = 120 * 2 = 240

The associates have to sit on either side of the delegate. Considering the contingent from either association as a single entity to be arranged, we have total of 6 units to be arranged in a circular table.
Total arrangements = 5! = 120
Each arrangement can itself be arranged in 2 ways i.e. A1DA2 or A2DA1.
Therefore, total arrangements = 120+120 or 120*2 = 240.
