Is there OE for this question?
I don’t think B is correct: auditory systems, whose structure enables... (systems) are plural, but (structure) is singular, I think they don’t match. It should be: auditory systems, whose structures enable...

Can you please help me understand what difference in meaning is created by the following construction

1. Between A and B - Option B and E
2. From A to B - Option D

Can I say that option D is wrong because parallelism is not maintained?
The structure of the auditory systems in bats enables them to echolocate,
a. sending and detecting bisonar pulses,
b. clicks and other calls <<wrong>>
and
c. using sound waves with frequencies mainly from 61.0 to 61.5.

Hey Rickooreo

1. From A to B includes the limits A and B. Between A and B can refer to the values in between A and B but not A and B.

2. Yes, D indeed has a parallelism error as you've rightly pointed out.

I'm a little bit confused here, how can "whose" refer to "auditory systems?

Question: how can the words "an ability to..." be used to refer to and explain the infinitive form "...to echolocate"? I would expect ’echolocate’ to be in its noun form, e.g., as "echolocation" for proper phrasing.

So,
"...enables echolocation, an ability to..." (also "the ability" instead of "an ability"?)
as opposed to
"...enables them to echolocate, an ability to..."

This reasoning was my basis for ruling out the official answer, so I’d really appreciate any bit of help!

The structure of the auditory systems in bats enable them to echolocate, an ability to send and detect bisonar pulses to clicks and other calls using sound waves with frequencies mainly between 61.0 to 61.5.[/u]

A. The structure of the auditory systems in bats enable them to echolocate, an ability to send and detect bisonar pulses to clicks and other calls using sound waves with frequencies mainly between 61.0 to 61.5.
B. Bats have auditory systems, whose structure enables them to echolocate, an ability to send and detect sound waves, which range from bisonar pulses to clicks and other calls and have frequencies mainly between 61.0 and 61.5.
C. Bats have auditory systems, whose structure enables them to echolocate by sending and detecting sound waves with frequencies mainly between 61.0 to 61.5, which range from bisonar pulses to clicks and other calls.
D. The structure of the auditory systems in bats enables them to echolocate, sending and detecting bisonar pulses, clicks and other calls and using sound waves with frequencies mainly from 61.0 to 61.5. - Nothing parallel to 'using' and the ' sending and detecting bisonar pulses' seems to modify echolocate, another reason to eliminate D.
E. The auditory systems of bats have a special structure that enables them to echolocate, sending and detecting sound waves, bisonar pulses, clicks to other calls, with frequencies mainly between 61.0 and 61.5.

The correct usage: 'Between X and Y'
