How many seconds will it take for a car that is traveling at a constant rate of 45 miles per hour to travel a distance of 220 yards? (1 mile=1,760 yards)

A. 8
B. 9
C. 10
D. 11
E. 12

Rate = 45 kms/ hour

Or, \(\frac{45}{3600}\) kms/second ----- (I)

Distance = 220 yards

Or, \(\frac{220}{1760}\)miles -------(II)

Time = \(\frac{45}{3600}*\frac{1760}{220}\)

Solving this we get ,

Time = 10 seconds

We see that 220 yards is 220/1760 = 22/176 = 11/88 = 1/8 miles.

Thus, the number of hours it will take to travel 1/8 miles at 45 mph is:

(1/8)/45 = 1/(45 x 8) = 1/360 hours, which is (1/360) x 3600 = 10 seconds

Answer: C

Just wondering where I am getting wrong in the below calculations or in my logic?
Converting 45 miles into yards : 45 *1160.
Converting hrs into seconds: 60*60
=> 45*1160/60*60 -> 29/2 yards/sec

220/(29/2) = 15 Secs.

Youre using 1160 instead of 1760. I have done 45miles*8=360 for numerator
Then 1 hr=60 mins=3600 seconds. 360/3600seconds.

this is such a wonderfully constructed problem.
step 1: use the 5s, to get yards into miles.

step 2, use mph to get to seconds, / 3600

simply nets out at 3600/360 =10
