I just took my first practice test and got a 47 on the verbal, but only got 2 questions of 38 wrong. How is it possible to score a 47 only getting 2 wrong? Should I take this score seriously or are other practice tests more accurate?

I see no problem with that. Theoretically, you could earn score 47 even you get 14 questions wrong. That's how the adaptive system works. Complex and hard to predict.

The reason for your query, I think, could be that 2 questions you answered wrong are medium questions. Those questions you answered correct are harder so the overall score is still high.

Also, GMATPrep is the best indicator right now. I dont think that those indicators from third-parties are better than from GMAC.

Thanks for the help! That's good to know!

In terms of studying, I'm a native English speaker so it wasn't too involved on sentence correction. On critical reasoning and reading comprehension, it just involved doing a lot of practice problems and getting used to the format.

Would agree to what the others posted.

Allthough the V section might fluctuate, the offical prep tests are the closest estimation you can get other than the real test.
Therefore, make sure too figure out your strenghts and weaknesses based on these.

All the best for your prep,
Chris

The GMAT Prep practice tests provide accurate scores for sure. So, here's why you scored V47 with all but two verbal questions correct.

Apparently, the verbal section of the GMAT is scored somehow differently from the quant section.

Whereas you could miss some quant questions and still score Q50 or Q51, getting all the verbal questions but one can result in your scoring V50 or V49, and, as you have seen, missing another could drive your score down to V47.

From what I understand, the real GMAT works the same way.
