The Mesopotamian cooks used the spices over five thousand years ago and the archaeologists have discovery the usage recently. We should keep the cooks using the spices as close as possible to or along with the expression ‘over five thousands years ago’.

A) Over five thousand years ago, archaeologists have discovered that …wrong word order. …. Implies that archaeologists discovered the usage five thousand years ago
(B) Over five thousand years ago, archaeologists had discovered that ……had discovered is wrong becos, the discovery has happened recently
(C) Archaeologists have discovered that, over five thousand years ago, ....Correct word order… the connector ‘that’ separates the main clause form the subordinate clause and removes any ambiguity
(D) Over five thousand years ago, as archaeologists have discovered it …implies that the discovery was done over five thousand years ago
(E) Archaeologists have discovered, over five thousand years ago, that…….. Implies that the discovery was done over five thousand years ago

C is the choice

My question here is that is the comma needed in C after all? I understand when nakib77 says, "putting a comma after that , over five thousand years ago, allowes to provide additional information," but if we remove comma, would it be wrong?
