the color purple is the noun in the sentence
published in 1982 is the modifier modifying the noun i.e. the color purple
bringing her the widest acclaim by winning both the national Book Award and the Pulitzer prize is the 'ing modifier'
but this is incorrect as back to back modifiers are incorrect on GMAT.
