I go with E because in contrast with hedgehogs and woodchucks, it must be bears and not the body temperature. And it must be plural "bears" since the sentence ends with a "their".

My take is E. The parallelism has to be correctly applied. The whose in the initial part of the sentence refers to hedgehogs, and so the underlined sentence should be compared to hedgehogs, which is bears.
