Hi,
Please see some responses. Hope these might be useful. And please follow up with more questions if needed.
- How were you able to find your ideal accommodation? Did you stay in a hotel/hostel for a few weeks until you found the perfect place?
a) An IESE-alumni has started as service (see
https://yourcitysherpa.com) where he helps all students finding accommodation and other things. Very useful service indeed.
b) Go via the general market, like this one
https://www.enalquiler.com. Please note that you should be on location to use this service.
- Any recommendations of the best place to list (cost and locality wise?)
I would recommend to find a place around Saint Gervasi, Les Corts or Gracia. These are closest to school and also close to most of other IESE-people (short proximity to social gatherings etc).
- How are the Case Studies going? I heard they are very difficult to get used to at first!
Case studies are challenging at first, but extremely rewarding. If you like expressing yourself verbally this is probably the best way to learn. There is a reason why HBS, Darden and others are completely using these models, while others (INSEAD, Tuck etc) are partially using it. What is more, since the classes are quite intimate and also extremely international the arguments in classes are so different and exciting that the learning outcome is tremendous. 2 months down the road it goes much faster preparing for a case.
- Though you have only been a student at IESE, are you already scanning around for post-MBA internships and jobs etc.? Or is that something that is normally done in the second year? (Also heard that the first year of IESE is very intensive its studies!)
Already after only 2 months we have meet all the most prestigious banks and consulting firms. MBB and other consulting firms had a deadline this weekend for internships, while the banks have a deadline the 20th. Already one month after starting MBB, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Citibank, Barclays, Credit Suisse and other banks came at campus. And two weeks ago we met all the top banks in London (including Goldman and Deutsche) at their offices. So yes, the heat is already on
Apart from that I can confirm that the start is intense when combining applications to the above mentioned organizations while studying, but not to a higher level than working in these organizations would be post-MBA. If you wish to go into industry, firms are starting to come now and until christmas while application deadlines are later, so that is a bit easier.
Did that answer most of your questions?
Best regards
