Take advantage of it, if there is truly something about you that you feel would strengthen your chances and you haven't yet had the opportunity to express it anywhere else in the application. But please be cautious do not just like reinforce previous points, or slap in another essay from another school, because they can sniff it out.

Do you have weaknesses that you think to yourself "I wish I could explain to the ADCOM exactly what happened with this"? Or do you feel like outside of everything that goes into the application, there are certain aspects you feel like would strengthen your profile that you don't otherwise have a chance to address until your interview? I took advantage of every single word I could on the optional essays because of my GPA/GMAT. I used it to explain this and what I felt would offset these weaknesses. I would say if you do take advantage of this opportunity, make sure it adds value to your profile and isn't just you typing an essay for the sake of fulfilling the word count.
