My name is Mridul Dewan and I am an HKUST MBA alumni (2016 intake, graduated in 2018). Instead of creating a new comment in each of the yearly forums, I am hoping to start a thread where I can probably answer questions about my experience at UST (and my post MBA life). Over the last 2-3 years, I have tried to answer questions around:
- what does UST look for? - what challenges does HK have for non-HK, non-Mainland students? - why did I pick HK over other schools/countries that gave me an admit? - how did I manage a job after MBA, etc? - how is the experience like in HK? Food, family, etc
I could also give you my 2 cents on why MBA (or why NOT MBA) depending on your profile. Over the course of 2-3 years, a significant number of people I have spoken to seem to have an unrealistic expectation from the program. That is something I feel is absolutely critical to your investment in a masters degree (opportunity cost of an MBA). I understand that I might not be able to answer all of your questions and for that, I am happy to put you in touch with my batchmates who could help you guys.
Feel free to shoot questions in the forum (tag me there for me to get a notification) or PM me if it is something you are not comfortable talking about publicly. I did interview with 8 schools and got through 7 of them so I can help with a few those as well. Alternatively, you can find me on LinkedIn (perks of a rare name) and connect there. I am pretty responsive there.
I hope that all these questions and responses will, in due course of time, give you a realistic picture of what UST MBA is all about and what can you expect during and after the program.
Best, Mridul
P.S: I will stay clear of proof reading essays or telling folks what to write in them. That's your story to tell the admissions team, so will let you guys to figure out
