total pipe production : 450*10= 4500
420*6+ 4*X= 4500
4X=1980
X=495

next part:
if X=480
420*6+480*4= 4440
average production=4440/10= 444

Value Of X
Current Average = 450/day
Total Production = 4500

Avg for first 6 Days = 420
Total Production = 2520

Avg for last 4 Days = x
Total Production = 4x

2520 + 4x = 4500
x = 495

New Average Overall
Avg for first 6 Days = 420
Total Production = 2520

New Avg for last 4 Days = 480
Total Production = 1920

2520 + 1920 = 4440
New Avg = 444

Also, we can see that new average of Last 4 days is reducing from 495 to 480. So we can easily figure out that the Overall new average will also reduce from 450, and there is only one value less than 450 which will be our answer.

In the first column, select the value of x, the average number of pipes made during the last 4 days of production. In the second column, select the value of the new 10-day average if the company were instead to produce 480 pipes per day during the last 4 days of the 10-day period. Make only two selections, one in each column.

Value
444 - New Average
450
465
480
495 - x
