Hello Experts (Bunuel KarishmaB sajjad1994 chetan2u )
I was pretty sure that there was no relation between elevation and average temperature and hence marked Indeterminate

It is disheartening to see that the answer is given as zero instead of indeterminate.

Also, please care to explain when do we select indeterminate?
If possible please tag a few questions for my better understanding of the same.
Thanks

Sajjad1994 - what is the difference between 'indeterminate' and 'zero' here? What is the final answer and why? Can we post the official explanation here?

There is no difference, and instead of zero or indeterminate, i would prefer undefined. I fixed it now. The answer is undefined.

Thank you.

Hi Sajjad1994
1. why is the answer for the second question not positive? Is it because of the the 3 data points on the right side of the graph (higher elevation).
2. Had we removed those 3, would the answer be positive?

1. Why is the answer to the second question not positive? Is it because of the three data points on the right side of the graph (higher elevation).

Why should it be positive?

A positive correlation is when one variable decreases as the other decreases, or one variable increases while the other increases.
A negative correlation is between two variables in which one variable increases as the other decreases, and vice versa.

Both of the above conditions are not holding here, so there is no or zero correlation.

2. Had we removed those 3, would the answer be positive?

No.

Hi Sajjad1994
I still don't understand. The chunk of points on the left side of the graph that are grouped together do follow the logic for positive correlation as when elevation increases the temperature also increases for them. It is only the 4 points on the right that are spoiling the positive correlation. Can't we take them to be outliers and ignore them altogether?

Even if we can't, why is the graph not in positive correlation once we remove the 4 points to the right?
Thanks
