the answer seems to be correct but the inequality sign in the highlighted part is incorrect.

(1) y > -6

(2) y < 0

Statement 1 doesnt put an upper limit for the value of y, and hence, not sufficient.
Statement 2 means y can take any negative value.

Combining; -6<y<0, which is a subset of the question stem.

this is a Yes / No question type so we only need either a Yes or a No and if we get both then the answer could be C

combining 1 & 2 we get  -6<y<0 . so all the values of  y  in this range are between  -7<y<10 . We have a Yes here. So C is sufficient

Is -7 < y < 10 ? (1) y > -6 (2) y < 0
