Statement 1: a+b = 30
Case 1: a = b = 15
Case 2: a = 5, b = 10 ni.e. a ≠ b
NOT SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: 2b = 60 - 2a
i.e. 2a + 2b = 60
Case 1: a = b = 15
Case 2: a = 5, b = 10 ni.e. a ≠ b
NOT SUFFICIENT
Combining
Case 1: a = b = 15
Case 2: a = 5, b = 10 ni.e. a ≠ b

We need to determine
- • If a = b or not
Analysing Statement 1
As per the information given in statement 1, a + b = 30
- • From this equation only, we cannot determine the individual values of a and b, and hence, cannot say whether a = b or not
• Here, a can be equal to b or may not be equal to b
Hence, statement 1 is not sufficient to answer the question
Analysing Statement 2
As per the information given in statement 2, 2b = 60 – 2a implies a + b = 30
- • From this equation only, we cannot determine the individual values of a and b, and hence, cannot say whether a = b or not
• Here, a can be equal to b or may not be equal to b
Hence, statement 2 is not sufficient to answer the question
Combining Both Statements
We have two variables, a and b, but only one equation a + b = 30
- • From this equation only, we cannot determine the individual values of a and b, and hence, cannot say whether a = b or not
