p= mn
We just have restraint that m<n .M can have many values 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2.
N can have 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
So many combinations.
Insufficient.
 (2) m = 5
We just have m=5 ;
No restraint on n. it could be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
So many combinations.
Insufficient.
1+2 
We do have restraint and value of m,
But still have 51,52,53,54 combinations
Insufficient.
E IMO.

I think the answer is E

If m, n and p are nonzero digits and mn = p. What is p?
(1) n < m

This statement is insufficient as m can take any value i.e. 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2.
Therefore, N can have 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
.
(2) m = 5
We just have m=5 ;
No restraint on n. it could be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
So, statement 2 is also Insufficient.

Combining Statement 1 & 2
m can take only value as 5, but n can be 1,2,3 or 4
So, p can have more than one option
So, combining the statements also insufficient

I am not completely sure but I think it should be (B)

It has been mentioned that m,n,p are non zero digits and NOT numbers. Hence, assuming they are single digits.

(1) n < m
Example : 1*2/ 2*3
(A) is not sufficient

(2) m = 5
When we know that m=5, the only possibility that remains is that of n=1 since that is the only combination that will result in p as a non zero DIGIT.
(B) is sufficient.

Like I said, I have solved as per my understanding of the question. Will wait for the OE.

For m=5, n=4, p will be 20
For m=5, n=3, p will be 15

m, n and p are nonzero digits => so they can be anything from 1 to 9
mn = p

1) n<m
So m is surely greater than 1.
mn =p......5*1=5......3*2=6
Insufficient

2) m=5
mn =p, so 5n=p.
But p is a digit, so maximum value of p can be 9.
The moment we take n=2, p=5*2=10, which is a 2-digit integer and not valid here as p is a digit. 
Note : There are only 10 digits - 0 to 9. When we say p is a digit, it means p is a single digit. 
Thus n=1, and mn=5*1=5=p. 
Sufficient
