If a^2 = b^2 = 25, what is the value of a + b?

Stat1: a - b = 0
a = b, so, a = b = +-5 and a+b = 10 or, -10. Not sufficient

Stat2: ab = 25
So, a = b= +-5 and a+b = 10 or, -10. Not sufficient

Combining both, still we have same issue. Not sufficient
So, I think E. :)

If a^2 = b^2 = 25, what is the value of a + b?

From a^2 = 25 it follows that a = 5 or a = -5.
From b^2 = 25 it follows that b = 5 or b = -5.

(1) a - b = 0 --> either a = b = 5, and in this case a + b = 10 or a = b = -5, and in this case a + b = -10. Not sufficient.

(2) a·b = 25. The same here: either a = b = 5, and in this case a + b = 10 or a = b = -5, and in this case a + b = -10. Not sufficient.

(1)+(2) Nothing new: either a = b = 5, and in this case a + b = 10 or a = b = -5, and in this case a + b = -10. Not sufficient.

Answer: E.
