Question: Does \(x^2 - y^2 = x + y\)?
We know the property that \(x^2 - y^2 = (x + y)*(x - y)\)
i.e. Question is Does \(x^2 - y^2 = (x + y)*(x - y) = (x + y)\)?
Which is possibleif (x-y) = 1 i.e.
Question REPHRASED: Is (x - y) = 1?
Statement 1: x and y are consecutive integers
i.e. x-y may be ±1 because
if x > y, then x - y = +1
if x < y, then x - y = -1 hence
NOT SUFFICIENT
Statement 2:x = 1 + y
i.e. x-y = 1
SUFFICIENT
Answer: Option B
