Statement 1: x^2*y < 0
i.e. y is negative but we don't know the sign of x hence
NOT SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: x^3y < 0
i.e. x and y have opposite signs hence
xy < 0 always hence
SUFFICIENT
Answer: Option B

Is xy<0
1. x^2y < 0
=> x and y are not equal to 0
and y is negative. Because irrespective of x being positive or negative, x^2 is always greater than or equal to 0.
2. x^3y <0
=> if x is negative, then x^3 is negative and y has to be positive for x^3y to be less than 0.
this means xy<0
also, if x is positive, then x^3 is positive and y has to be negative for x^3y to be less than 0.
this means xy<0
Sufficient.
Answer B
1. x^2y < 0
