(1) |x| = -x
Inference: x is not positive
Case 1: x can be zero | Is x < 0? ⇒ No
Case 2: x can be negative| Is x < 0? ⇒ Yes
The statement alone is not sufficient. Hence, we can eliminate A and D.
Statement 2
(2) |x| > x
Inference: x is negative because if x is non-negative (positive or zero) |x| = x.
Hence, the statement alone is sufficient.

Bunuel I have marked this question as D because though I thought x can be equal 0, the expression |x| = -x is confusing. Is it acceptable to write |0| = -0?!
