Yes best of luck. I know a bad gpa 5 yrs back shouldn't hold you back but I guess they want to see how dedicated you were back then. Again you will always find a few ppl who get in with sob stories and because of affirmative action but overall realistically very low chances.assuming you aren't a citizen or green card holder Canada is easier immigration wise as well. A gpa of 2.7-2.8 would give you somewhat of a chance if you had a compelling story. Believe me when I say it a sob story doesn't usually work and the adcoms can make out very easily if a person is just making up stuff. My friend worked as a adcom interviewer when he was a second year student and I know how the process works. He said women go in different piles. The bar is way lower if you happen to be African American or Latino.there are separate piles for such candidates . So even though their gmat avg is 700 that particular set of students were accepted from 550 onwards and Infact according to him very few candidates ever had a 700 + gmat. Asians were expected to be 700+ .white men were also expected to be at average . I don't know about middle eastern men but It depends if your country/race is represented at that specific school. I know all this sucks big time and one should be judged based on their qualifications alone but in this politically correct world people are judged on several things which are immaterial to b school. If you have a professional certification it would help . If you are in usa take a certificate course from nyu or Columbia or something and get all A's and that would help as well. That would be an alternate ttanscript and something you can do in 4 months. Beyond that I wouldn't bother. I have a 760 gnat and 3.7 gpa with banking experience and was wait listed and eventually denied at HBS. At Stanford I got an automatic ding without an interview. Those were the only schools I applied to and I know for a matter of fact that if I wasnt an Indian but was black or Latino I would have been at HBS today.such is life!

Also one last thing if you wish to get into banking or core finance there are a few target schools. HBS,Stanford, Wharton, booth, tuck, duke, nyu,Columbia ,Ross, darden, mit and Yale. If you are not in one those schools forget about it. You will be stuck at a no nothing boutique doing **** work and will regret.rather try Ivey,Schulich, rotman,McGill or queens in Canada. They also need a 3.0 in the last 2 years as mentioned on their website but you can send an email and tell them your story and see if they can evaluate your profile. You will prolly get some sort of an indication if they are interested. Again best of luck. If you are coming to Canada next yr near Toronto I will hopefully see you there.

I am not in the USA actually . i am now living in Dubai .
Anyway why didn't you apply for Duke , or tuck or booth ? you still have an extremely high GPA and GMAT so i expect you to be admitted at those schools with ease .
I was frankly planning on targeting the top 5 schools only but thanks to your story i am not gonna waste my time and will be trying with IE , IESE , IMD etc... while still applying for schulich anyway
But to be honest , it's really hard to blame HBS or Stanford or accuse them of anything . God knows how many applications they get each year .

No I am not blaming them.just pointing out the mere facts which are plain and simple .your race /nationality matters . I visited duke and I found it to be very subpar besides it's only good for consulting. I am prolly going to apply to wharton and tuck along with rotman and Schulich this yr in round 2 . I am still talking to other students . The advantage Canada has over us and European schools as an international student is that immigration is very very easy and I love Canada.much cleaner , safer and people are nice and friendly . Let's see I might apply to lbs and Cambridge. I can't see myself going to Spain or France so no iese or insead. I want to be in a country where I understand the language and speaking to intl students at insead they said no placements in Europe .all either go to hongkong or Singapore in Asia and I don't want to live in those places.
