Hello everybody,
I am a new GMAT Club member and I would like to share my experience with you. First, a few words about myself. I am a French 21 years old student (Master Program in Finance and Banking) from Paris, and I'm planning to apply to several foreign business schools. In other words, I will not apply to any French business schools (that's why I'm taking GMAT). The top business school I wish to enter is Stockholm School of Economics (MSc in Finance). I experienced my first actual GMAT today, and here is the result: 620 (Q42, V33). At first, I was disappointed about my score, as my two GMAT prep tests yielded scores of 660 and 680. I even started to panic because of my "poor" actual score. Also, even if Stockholm School of Economics' threshold is set at 600, my target is to reach 690-700. After panic, I managed to calm down, stay cool, and put things into perspective. This is my first attempt, and I know that a vast majority of test takers do not get a "sufficient" score on the first attempt. Here is my study equipment: the complete set of Manhattan Prep books, Kaplan books and GMAT official guides. Concerning my score, I am absolutely sure that I can improve my scores and get a 700 score. I'm hard worker and motivated: I started to prepare for GMAT roughly two months ago (in late August), and I spend at least two hours per day on GMAT preparation (up to six hours on weekend days). I have two questions:
- Am I doing things correctly in order to achieve my goals? Do I work enough (by the way: I also have to devote time to my current studies other than the GMAT) or should I spend more time on the GMAT?
- Beyond this, what can you advise me?

I think the time allocation for GMAT studies is spot on.
If you work diligently and prepare an error log(detailing the reason why you
made the mistake, when you make it) you are well set to score in excess of 700!
These are some tips which I think should help in improving your scores by effectively using the forum.
1. Follow Bunuel at the Math Forum
Also, solve each and every question he puts up on the forum. Additionally, you
may want to solve the questions in his signature. These questions will definitely
suffice for Quant practice
2. Some beneficial links that you will find here, at GMATClub
This link contains all the important math concepts tested in GMAT : Quantitative Megathread
For Reading Comprehension, this is must read post for improving strategy
You might also want to check the GMATClub Tests(which can help you improve your score)
You could either buy them or earn kudos to redeem the tests. These tests will definitely
help you go that extra mile and improve your scores drastically!

In your first exam, you got a good score.
I am sure if you put enough time and energy down, you will get the score you want.
GMAT Quant and Verbal, since you are young, will come with practice and will stay.
So Make a plan, assess your errors and keep practicing.
Official materials play a very important role.
Especially for verbal only use official materials as you get close to your exam.
I am sure you will get the score you want. You just need to get used to the exam.
In your first exam, you got a good score.
