Need help!! First attempt- 610 23V 50Q 4IR

Question

Hi guys, took the GMAT today. Very disappointed with my score. Spent around 3 months preparing for this. Very clueless on how to move ahead.
These are my scores on GMATPrep:
GMAT Prep 1: 550 (my first ever attemp, did not know anything about GMAT back then)
GMAT Prep 2: 660 (Q49, V31)
GMAT Prep 3: 690 (Q49, V35)
GMAT Prep 4: 650 (Q49, V31)
GMAT Prep 5: 680 (Q49, V34)
GMAT Prep 6: 740 (Q50, V39)
I was consistently scoring above 30 in verbal on my mocks, but couldn't do the same on the actual GMAT. I found real SC and RC question much harder than Prep Questions. I have completed retired Prep Questions completely and have exhausted almost all official materials.
I didn't face any anxiety issues but was irritated with the marker provided, the marker wouldn't work after leaving it open for only a few seconds. 
My target B-Schools for MiM are: HEC,ESSEC or ESCP.
Please help!!! Don't know what else I can do in verbal.

Hi, sorry to hear about your bad verbal experience on the test day and congratulations on getting an outstanding score in quant. don't be disappointed as GMAT is a standardized test and it's only matter of time till you reach your target score. I would advise ordering an ESR for a better judgement. in most of the cases, the first section that is the first 8-10 questions determine how higher you can score.
1.were you confident about the answers for the questions you've faced in the first quarter of the test?
2.It appears that you've been averaging around V35 in all your mocks and it seems you're pretty good with the basics, is there a specific section you find challenging or less confident about?
3. Did you give all your mocks in actual GMAT like conditions? (or maybe as close as possible)
4. You have mentioned about solving all the retired and official questions, have you spent enough time reviewing every question in detail and maintaining a error log?
Before jumping into any conclusions, ESR would most definitely help . Don't give up, you're almost there

1. I was not confident enough with my answers in verbal. The questions that came were bit harder than the prep.
2. I struggled with time 
management.
3. I found SC the most challenging during my practice sessions. RC and CR were pretty good. But, all of these went bad on the actual GMAT.
4. Yes I do have a detailed error log for all the questions that i have solved during my preparation.
5. The conditions that I took mock were similar to the test environment, and There were no distractions during my test hour's except the **** up marker, which would stop working after leaving it open for few seconds.

Hi Arvaindrk1111,

I’m sorry to hear how things went with your GMAT.

Assuming that you took your official practice exams under realistic testing conditions, the results show that, on a good day, you are capable of scoring higher than V23. Since nerves were not an issue, it’s possible that you have some lingering weaknesses that were exposed on test day. Although I’m unsure of how you prepared, it’s possible that, in your verbal preparation, you did not really learn to do what you have to do in order to score high on the actual GMAT. Rather, you picked up on some patterns that were effective in getting you relatively high scores on practice tests. So, for you to hit your score goal, your preparation probably needs to be more complete, meaning that you have to go through the various types of GMAT questions carefully to find your exact weaknesses, fill gaps in your knowledge, and strengthen your skills.

For verbal specifically, you have to become more skilled at clearly defining the differences between trap choices and correct answers. Otherwise, you will get stuck guessing between two choices or be surprised to find that you incorrectly answered questions that you thought you answered correctly. Becoming more skilled in this way takes carefully analyzing all of the answer choices to lots of verbal questions to develop an eye for the logical differences between the choices. In other words, you have to go beyond answering practice questions and reading explanations to doing deep analysis of questions to learn to see everything that is going on in them.

Hi Aravind, all the resources you've listed, are largely  question  compilations.

So, it seems that you did not really use any  text  to get hold of the  theory  part.

That could perhaps offer an explanation.

For the theory part i refferd MGMAT SC guide, CR powerscore bible and Gmat club for RC.
Verbal videos from Ron and gmatninja also helped.

Hi, please strengthen your SC.

Get Manhattan books SC and learn from that. Afterward, redo all OG2020 verbal parts and OGVR2020 questions.

I hope you will make improvements. GMAT is about comprehension and not about memorizing as many questions as we can

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How many hours did you typically study each week?
2) Did you take any other CATs besides the 6 Official ones? On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
3) What is your overall goal score?
4) What application deadlines are you currently facing?

You might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.
