Hi all,
I took GMAT exam at the Bangalore Pearson Shivajinagar test center on 5th January 2021. I scored 730 (Q50, V40) in my test. Slightly disappointed with my score. As my scores in 6 GMAT prep mocks were ( Mock 1 - 780, Mock 2 - 780, Mock 3- 770, Mock 4 - 780, Mock 5 - 770, Mock 6 - 760). I was expecting a score around 750 or above.
First let me talk about the exam experience. I felt the quant questions had a lot of variation in difficulty. The initial ones were very challenging and different. There were more riddle like questions. The kind of question I faced on actual GMAT had lot of variance as compared to GMAT prep mocks. Towards the end the I felt the questions were very easy. Some of them were very simple basic calculation type questions.
The verbal section seemed to be easy as compared to GMAT prep mocks. Specially the RC passages I got were relatively simple. Couple of SC questions were challenging. I will suggest all to keep close tab on time management in verbal. I never faced any issues with time management on gmat prep mocks in verbal sections. In fact in couple of my mocks I had luxury of 5 mins to solve last question. But in actual GMAT I found time management a bit of challenge, specially in last 10 questions. Though I was able to manage it at end. Honestly I was surprised to see my verbal score. I thought I did better than the score suggests.
Now let me add a few lines about my test center experience. It was not a smooth experience. I had to changes 6 markers during first 10 mins of my test. I had tested the initial two markers given to me before going in the exam hall. But I found them to be non-functional within the span of first question itself. I was surprised to see the test center re-using the old markers. The writing pads provided for the exams were also very old . I found during the coarse of my exams that I was able to write on some portion of the board very smoothly but on some portion of the pad, I was not able to write with the marker at all. My concentration really took a hit in initial few mins of the exams because of all these challenges.
I would suggest all the test takers to practice the mocks with some level of noise ( maybe open up a window of the room). Try to get used to the feel of noise cancelling headphones on your ears for long time. Also if possible request your family members to walk in the room and take a stroll while you are giving mock. In actual GMAT, the test center was starting test for different people at different time. As and when people walked in, they were escorted to the computers and test was started. So you will face multiple distractions of people moving around you. Its not the sound that distracts, when you find a person moving around you it is a much stronger distraction. Atleast for me it was a very strong distraction.
