Wow. Congratulations!!!

I got V42 and I can definitely testify and relate to how hard it is to get V02. I thought I was failing my test the whole time… I am surprised with your Quant score however… perhaps just nervousness and making some careless or computation errors? Sorry! But this is a really amazing improvement from 530 to 720, it’s a huge jump!!!

bb, absolutely! I had blanked out during Quant. I took verbal first during the exam - the best thing I ever did because doing verbal 2nd during mocks usually made me lethargic to go through questions. I never attempted in this order in mocks and I definitely don't recommend to anyone to make last minute changes, it worked for me but it may or may not work in other peoples favour. haha.

Quant was normally my stronger section, but because I blanked out, I forgot approaches and got stuck in a few questions with few minutes to spare for the final few.

Definitely agree it's a massive jump. I never believed in people that wrote debriefs where they spoke about a 200 point improvement - only to find that it was a jump from a cold mock to an actual exam.

I did the same thing from one official exam to another in under 40 days :) For anyone reading this, I'm a NON native. So, if I can, ANYONE (with the right approach, attitude and determination) CAN!

On a different note, do you think this is a low quant score for my target colleges - INSEAD, HEC, ESSEC etc ?

Sorry for missing your reply. I do not think your quant score will keep you from getting into an MBA program. Even specialized masters, they usually do not care to report their average or median Quant score, instead they report the total aggregate GMAT score and show it off, and your 720 should fit in there. So your Quant score will not keep you out.

However, 720 can be a competitive score for some demographics and for others it may be slightly below (e.g. some of the South-East Asia engineers find themselves in a tough spot where average for Engineer applicants is a 750). At the same time, your V42 may be give you a slight differentiation ... or if you do want a top bschool and a shot at scholarship, getting a 750 would definitely help for someone from a competitive demographic.

Hi Harshani,
I was only focusing on my accuracy on the 600-650 level questions, and then moved to the 650-700 level. Easier questions hurt the score harder than tougher ones - that's what I focused on. I rarely even picked up the 700-750 range questions during practice. I think it just comes naturally after a certain point :)

Sorry that I'm late to the party, slk00, but I wanted to offer a huge belated congratulations on the awesome score. Your debrief is an absolute joy to read, and it's thrilled to see you absolutely CRUSH verbal in the end. That's also one heck of an amazing improvement -- it's outrageously rare to see an almost 200-point improvement. So you deserve a few cookies. :)

Congratulations again, and please let us know where you land for grad school in the end!
