I recently gave my third attempt at GMAT (The earlier two one's were classic, scored 680 in each (Q50,V31; Q49,V34)) and was totally suprised with the result. Before I jump up to results, I will add my text taking experience:
I had booked a morning slot, and reached on time at the centre. I had planned for Q>V>(Break)>DI; and was scoring ~645 on my mocks. Three days before the exam (& after booking the slot) I woke up with a fever, and was distraught. I gave an official mock the day I had fever, and was happy to see the score of 645 reflected on my screen. ("No rescheduling!" I yelled).
On the day of exam, I was completely fine (except for a mild cough, why they don't allow a handkerchief?), and began with my order of section. The questions i saw for Quant were on easy level but confusing in between. It was only Question 11 and 13 they gave me some sweat and I marked those to come back at them again; I completed the rest of questions with 10 minutes left and came back to attempt 11th and 13th, which I found to be on a harder difficulty (700+), and ended up making calculated guess.
Verbal has always been my nemesis, and I didnt really had any hopes from it but I remember for my first attempt debrief on GC, BB and Karishma had shared to not let your monkey brain kick in during the test (Don't end up wondering how you are doing during the test); and I completely followed it.
I took a break, to sooth my throat with hot water and then began with DI. I was performing well in DI in my mocks, but the first MSR stumbled me, and the rest of the questions too were confusing. With 15 questions, my timer reflected 5 Minutes and that caused me worry. I rushed through the last 5, but was able to derive answer for each.
My scores displayed were: 645 with a Q70/V90/DI84 percentile and 81/84/80 score. The V90 was overshadowed with a Q70 and i was suprised to see I had only 3 wrong attempts in Quant. The first, 11th and 13th. (I swapped answers for 11th and 13 th only, and both the intial and later answers were incorrect). While I would have been happy with a 645, the Q70 hasn't done good to me.
