StaticGrass - If the section scores had failed to translate, the total percentile would have landed below the section percentiles. It landed above all three. Nothing leaked here — it compounded.

Look at the four numbers side by side:

Verbal 90th. Quant 93rd. Data Insights 95th. Total: 97th.

That's the answer to "so why only 695?" There is no "only." The total came out higher than every section that fed it, which is the exact opposite of the problem you're diagnosing.

Here's why it works that way. A section percentile answers a narrow question: how many people beat you on this one thing? The total percentile answers a much harder one: how many people beat you on all three at once? Plenty of people are in the top 10% at running. Far fewer are top 10% at running and swimming and cycling on the same day. Being good at one thing is common. Being good at three different things simultaneously is rare, and the total score is what captures that rarity. Consistency isn't a consolation prize on this exam — it's the thing being measured.

So — what actually led you to conclude the sections didn't translate? Were you working from an expected total you had in mind, or was the assumption that 695 sits somewhere in the low 90s percentile-wise? Genuinely curious, because everything in the post follows from that one premise, and the premise is where it breaks.
