Confused & Hopeless

Question

Hi Guys, I took the Gmat exam last Friday (which turned out to be a nightmare) and I scored 460 :cry:

Q32, V20. I think the biggest mistake I made was not to reschedule the exam. I started to study for Gmat at the beginning of February and thought that I would be ready for it in 1 month (see how silly I am!!) I was getting scores between 480 and 550 on the sample tests, I knew I wasn't ready but the wish to get rid of the exam at once was too strong inside and finally (and obviously) I got this pathetic score... I live in Montreal and I was planning to apply to Concordia and McGill... But neither my work experince nor my references will look good with that score I believe :cry:

I can't decide between going ahead and apply (face the risk of rejection) or re-take the exam (I know I'm definetely not a test person) I feel so lost and hopeless right now... Any recommendations please...

What kind of Score does McGill Require. Out of these two universities, I think McGill has a better repuation.

Since you have already done a lot of work while preparing for this exam, why don't you just add some more and target to go over 600.

What is the deadline for McGill?

I initially thought I would be able to prepare for GMAT in two weeks (Christmas Time), yet I'm still working on it. My CAT scores discourage me to take the actual test.

Although I want to get over with this too, but I am trying to get a good score too.

Don't be discouraged by this low score, this only tells you to work even harder.

It seems that with a little more prep you have the ability to hit the upper 500's to low 600's. I'm not sure of the average GMAT for the schools you applied to, but if the 460 is below you may not want to apply now. You could also contact the admission department and speak to a counselor and sometimes even the director and get their feedback.

I emailed the Direct of my school of choice and she responded to me telling me exactly what I needed to do on the GMAT (score-wise). So now I have a gauge.

The deadline for McGill is June 1st for Fall 2008. So, I still have time. On the admission page they say that "While there is no minimum GMAT score required, the average GMAT score of the most recent class was 650".

I'll talk to the counselor first to see their reaction as humbled4real suggested, then probably re-take the exam
