Today’s Yale “India Application Workshop” webinar had around 90 participants, almost all were Indian applicants and applying this year. With so many applicants from the same country, it seems extremely competitive to get selected. How does the school differentiate among applicants? Does it place significant emphasis on diversity, and do applicants essentially need to be exceptional across every aspect of their application to receive an interview?

I would say exceptional in at least 1 area, otherwise it would be difficult.

A Yale SOM Alum (Class of 2005), I was an Arts Major for my undegrad, and Masters in History from JNU. So yes, they definitely place a high value on diversity. But I also felt that Yale values the following bery highly: 1. collaborative leadership approach 2. clarity of career goal (Why MBA & why now) 3. Demonstrated evidence of passion (ideally one that would bring about a measurable impact)
