so you do still pay a separate fee to Yale, it’s not waived just because you’re coming through HEC

I would briefly mention both your short term and long term goals, but spend much more space on your short term goal.

The reason is that Yale asks about your career interests, how you arrived at them, what you’ve already done to pursue them, and what you need to do going forward. That naturally forms a timeline: past → short term → long term.

I’d structure it like this:
• Why this career interests you (your motivation/hook)
• What you’ve already done that makes this path credible (this should take the most space)
• Your short term goal
• Your long term goal (1 sentence is usually enough)
• Why Yale is the right bridge to get there (keep this concise)

With only 200 words, avoid spending too many words on the long term vision. The stronger part of the essay is showing that your short term goal is realistic based on your past experiences.
