Hi GMAT experts,
I recently took my first GMAT and obtained a V39.
I scored around V39 in the practice tests leading up to the actual test.
What is interesting is that for my practice tests, the breakdown for CR/RC/SC was roughly equal.
However, I ordered my enhanced score report: my RC was rated at 38 (ok, fine), but to my surprise my CR was rated at 51 and my SC was rated at 32.
I've been doing a lot of SC recently and realized my SC is not as strong as I thought it was.
However, is my CR really that strong? Would it have been possible to "luck" my way into a 51 subscore? I did do quite a bit of CR drilling prior to the test (using even LSAT questions), but I did not expect such a strong result.

If you were scoring V39 consistently, then that means you were scoring right around the 90th percentile in Verbal (which is obviously a score that most Test Takers are incapable of achieving). By definition, you don't have a 'weak' category when you're scoring at that level. It could be that on this particular Test, the concepts were 'clicking' a bit better for you on CR than they normally did, but again - you were NOT weak at CR before. It's also worth noting that at this scoring level, the GMAT becomes really 'sensitive' to little mistakes, so just a few more/less correct/incorrect answers can swing the 'numbers' significantly. It could be that you got lucky on a couple of questions, but 'luck' probably isn't the proper word - you did good work and when you had to 'narrow it down and take a "guess"', you got those questions correct.
