It's taking place at Wharton. No mention on the agenda of specific building names. It's listed on the website under On Campus events if you want to check it out.

My personal agenda during school visit would've always been "schmooze till you drop" in all the buildings there are.
Have a plan before you go: names, classes, visits, conversations, meetings, coffee, events after classes, etc.

Thanks, but this is a pretty structured event. The schedule is planned for the participants. I'm less concerned with "schmoozing" and more focused on seeing if I feel that Wharton could be the right place for me.

I am a re applicant and was wondering if I should recycle my essays or not? Is there any value in redoing all of them from scratch?

I applied for Fall 2010 start and was dinged after the endless wait listing in summer of 2010.

Thanks

Guys, I have not been on here in awhile but just read through some recent posts:

I have been reviewing alot of veteran candidate essays and I think the key to essays is to keep things simple, honest, and compelling.

There is no magic formula and the more "consultants" tell us to sprinkle in examples here and there, the more of the human element you lose.

I agree it is important to show the diversity of your experiences, but I believe is is most important to reveal the person you are, your core values, and how you interact with people, resolve conflict, improve, and work to help others.

After being here for nearly 2 months, I can already tell how the admissions process reflects the learning team model. Of course they want great candidates, but they are evaluating your leadership charactertistics - how do you resolve conflict, handle intense emotional events? are you conscientious aka do you step up for your team and help to resolve interpersonal disputes? are you comfortable in a variety of roles from leading to filling a supporting role? how far will you go to help your team achieve their goals? do your goals spring from your personal story and values? have your past actions matched up with your goals? what kind of personal impact do you bring here.

it is alot less about filling out a formula and a lot more about openness, integrity, and telling your compelling personal story rather than impressing the committee with accomplishments

i firmly believe the class is not selected solely according to accomplishments, but by selecting the best people who will create the strongest community/environment with the best possible longevity aka alumni network

i know the process sucks, and you guys/girls are stressed but after you craft your essays, take a second and look at how those essays reveal who you are, what makes you tick, focus on leadership but remember leadership has many components liek the ones i referred to - openness, conscientiousness, emotional reactivity, etc

PM me if you need any help, I was in your shoes last year, i definitely didnt have the most impressive stats but used my experiences to create a brand around leadership and values and it paid off

I apologize in advance if this has already been asked/answered on this thread and I somehow missed it...but does anyone know what format these essays are supposed to be in? (ie 1 document vs 3 separate documents, word vs pdf, font, size, spacing, etc)

I feel they are pretty good :)
of 3 essay
- I plan to recycle 1 (80% content reuse) f
- recycle 20% for second
- Rewrite 3 from scratch.

Just wondering if this is good enough. Would really appreciate your perspective on this. Shooting for R1!

Thanks

There is nothing wrong with recycling anything that is yours as long as you have mapped out your new plan well. It seems reasonable to start with your goals first, and then think about how your existing material helps you meet them:
1. What are your primary goals?
2. What are you secondary goals?
3. How do your essays help you achieve either?
In my view the wrong approach would be the Procrustean Bed type of effort: I have seen people make themselves believe that the last year's essays were great (hey! I got on WL with these!), and they could just be pasted under the new questions.

Attended Explore Wharton on Thursday and Friday. It was absolutely amazing. I sat in on a managerial economics class. The lesson was on monopolies, duopolies, and collusion. The prof showed how firms can signal to competitors an increase or decrease in capacity. There was a mock admissions panel where the prospectives got to review two applicant files (everything from GPA, GMAT, resume, recs, and essays) and give our analysis on how the adcom viewed it. These were actual candidates (one admit, one waitlist). Went to pub (HUGE student social) on Thursday night. Everyone was so welcoming and encouraging. AAMBAA hosted a panel discussion for prospectives to ask questions about any and everything. There was also discussion of the upcoming changes to the curriculum. Oh and we got to go to IRON PROF 2011. That was absolutely AMAZING! Wharton students and faculty have a great sense of humor and are able to poke fun at themselves. The research that Wharton's faculty members are doing is incredible. If you're interested in marketing check out Jonah Berger. Wharton's an amazing place and I'm so excited to apply.
