There are so few people in the roll call with a 720+ GMAT and 3.5+ GPA who have reported a straight up ding without an interview (<10% of those meeting that criteria). Now that I am staring at the very real prospect of being in that 10%, I am unsure what it was that Adcom saw (or did not see) in my application that gave rise to the ding, and I wonder what it means for my chances at other schools. It is very frustrating that there is no feedback mechanism and that the selection process is so opaque, That feedback would be invaluable, especially if it becomes necessary for me to reapply to schools next year.

Whatever happens with Wharton (and I'm still very hopeful you will get an interview), please don't let it affect your confidence for other schools. One school's decision is not indicative of what another school thinks of your candidacy. If for some unknown reason Wharton passes on you, I am positive it will be another school's gain. You've got this, so remember that.

What's the 10% club?

looks like someone on the previous page did some number crunching and found that ≤10% of people with 720+ GMAT and 3.5+ GPA were dinged w/o interview @wharton.

That said, this is my take on the slew of invites that come out on the last day. Applications are reviewed by ~2 AdCom's and if they are in agreement about interview (this is apparently how another school does it and it makes sense), that individual gets invited immediately. If divided, then Dir of Admission (Ankur Kumar in this case) has a last look at the individual applications and might decide to go ahead with the interview anyway or ding. Several interviews support this sequence of events.

It may just be my wishful thinking, since I was told by admission that they were reviewing my application on the 10th of Feb (when I sent in a significant update on my startup). Unlikely that they would take 2 weeks to 'review' my appl. So, of all the wild hypothesis that are swimming in my head every thursday evening, this one makes the most sense.

For the internationals who got invited to interview after the hub cities have been filled: it happened to me and I had to fly to Philly. I think the sooner you guys plan the trip the better. If you need any advice on places to stay let me know. If you really love Wharton, I'd say try to go there as opposed to the Skype/Phone interview route.

Wouldn't be surprised if ex-adcoms sign non disclosure agreements upon leaving that position. And even if they don't, providing clarity to us, the applicants, doesn't necessarily benefit them from a business standpoint anyways. The more we are in the dark, the more we might decide to fork over some $ for their consulting services.

Hi all,

I was fortunate to receive an invite today. However, there is no on-campus or US hub city slot available for an interview. What is the best course of action here? 1. Wait? 2. Call Adcom to schedule a Skype/Phone interview?

Earlier applicants (Rd1 and earlier Rd2): Did you experience this lack of open slots? If so, did you see changes when checking availability regularly or did you have to schedule a phone interview?

Thanks.

Over me I guess.. Not very probable that they would send an invite to an international on the last day. Any idea what time do they send dings on last day.. :)

Hello guys! Got my invite at 2:42 EST. International. No hubs available, only 7 on-campus interview slots available... Does anyone know what should I do to schedule for a telephone/skype interview?
Thank you an good luck!

I'm in the same boat. I got my invite last night (Bangkok time). What a surprise! But no hubs available. I would appreciate if someone would advise me the appropriate course of action.

I already emailed the adcom about this.

Ekachat, congrats on the invite. I would call the mba admissions office. There's a specific # you press concerning interviews, and they told me that they would arrange alternate (I'm guessing skype or phone) interviews if requested.

I was lucky enough to get an interview invite, but when I tried to schedule an interview online, I saw that all slots were full. I called the admissions office and was told that all slots were indeed full and to email [email protected] so they could keep track of those who weren't able to secure an interview slot, and they would either open more slots or do phone interviews. A bit annoying because I live in NY and was planning to take the train down. Oh well, hopefully this doesn't negatively impact my chances!

I'm sure it won't. How can the adcom fault you for not being able to schedule an interview in a slot that doesn't exist? This can't possibly reflect badly on you in any way.

Plus I don't think timing of when the interview is conducted has any correlation on your chances of being admitted. I believe they wait for all of the interviews to be complete before they do the final application reviews to make admissions decisions.

All of that to say you shouldn't be at any disadvantage at all.

OK so I know we heard that there are some HCMs out there who got an interview, but did anyone on this board?

I'm a 710 w/ a 3.8 GPA. Not quite the top 10% but this is still so upsetting

It is hard not to feel dejected considering how much work went into the application. I was lucky enough to have a professor from the b school write a strong note of support and thought that would at least produce an interview invite, but no cigar. Comforting myself knowing there is always next year!

Saving a little hope for the last day, and good luck to everyone else. Perhaps the "slew of last day invites" may happen after all!

Did you apply to other schools? Have you gotten results back? Any admits thus far? Is Wharton your only shot at going to school in Fall 2012?

I only applied to two schools ... throughout this process I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather try again with Wharton next year. I did receive an invite from the other. Various reasons prevented me from applying R1 and to more schools.

Ok, was just wondering. Wasn't questioning why you didn't apply to more schools. Just was curious if Wharton was your only shot. It sounds like you're not as keen on your other school as you once were. These things happen.

But just a thought. If this other school gives you the interview and Wharton doesn't, maybe it's worth it to find a connection/fit with that school. Not to say that it will be there, but maybe just put for more effort to find it. I think we can all agree that this process is very difficult. I would just hate to see you get an admit somewhere else just to pass on it to put yourself through this again. Whatever happens I wish you the best of luck.

So what is the perception on this forum...r all the invites out or do we expect some more on Tuesday? What is the realistic scenario here...what does stats say? Is almost 40% of interview invites out?

For me, this was my strongest application...and assuming Wharton interviews 40% of applicants...I was (and probably still am) very optimistic for getting the interview atleast if not an admit... applied for HCM...
