Essay Analysis & Comments I have been approached by quite a few prospective candidates asking for advice on "what's best to write for Wharton", i.e. what would the school want to hear. My personal view, reinforced by what has worked for me is to decide on what parts of YOURSELF and YOUR story you want to showcase the most, i.e. what makes you unique and valuable, and deliver that using some creative writing. The question then becomes not that of execution, because good execution does not stand in the way. The only thing that matters is then whether YOU are indeed valuable and unique. What makes you valuable and unique? My personal agenda during school visit would've always been "schmooze till you drop" in all the buildings there are. Have a plan before you go: names, classes, visits, conversations, meetings, coffee, events after classes, etc. I have been reviewing alot of veteran candidate essays and I think the key to essays is to keep things simple, honest, and compelling. There is no magic formula and the more "consultants" tell us to sprinkle in examples here and there, the more of the human element you lose. I agree it is important to show the diversity of your experiences, but I believe is is most important to reveal the person you are, your core values, and how you interact with people, resolve conflict, improve, and work to help others. After being here for nearly 2 months, I can already tell how the admissions process reflects the learning team model. Of course they want great candidates, but they are evaluating your leadership charactertistics - how do you resolve conflict, handle intense emotional events? are you conscientious aka do you step up for your team and help to resolve interpersonal disputes? are you comfortable in a variety of roles from leading to filling a supporting role? how far will you go to help your team achieve their goals? do your goals spring from your personal story and values? have your past actions matched up with your goals? what kind of personal impact do you bring here. it is alot less about filling out a formula and a lot more about openness, integrity, and telling your compelling personal story rather than impressing the committee with accomplishments i firmly believe the class is not selected solely according to accomplishments, but by selecting the best people who will create the strongest community/environment with the best possible longevity aka alumni network i know the process sucks, and you guys/girls are stressed but after you craft your essays, take a second and look at how those essays reveal who you are, what makes you tick, focus on leadership but remember leadership has many components liek the ones i referred to - openness, conscientiousness, emotional reactivity, etc PM me if you need any help, I was in your shoes last year, i definitely didnt have the most impressive stats but used my experiences to create a brand around leadership and values and it paid off Application Submission Confirmation Text Last interview questions : https://poetsandquants.com/2010/11/21/l ... al-issues/

If the tally on page one is even semi-accurate, it seems to me that there are still a significant number of Wharton invites to come. If 20% of Round 1 GMAT Clubbers (rounded up from 16% to account for those who received invites today and haven't updated the front page) have received invites-- and Wharton interviews ~40%-- we can pretty conservatively assume that almost half of the invites are yet to come...

At least this is what I'm telling myself...

I tell myself the same exact thing. However, I assume that many people could have applied in round one but never returned to report the progress. So I think only about 1/3 of the invitations will come next week. I'd be happy to be wrong though...

I'm trying to be optimistic as well but I have believe you're right that the interview % on this forum is skewed down by people not updating their status.

I guess it's better than having nothing to go on though, and we'll know for sure in a week anyways.

I received my invitation this morning. I am currently living in Hong Kong and all the slots for the hub cities nearby (Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, even India) is full!!

I have no other option but to fly to the states for an interview. I wonder whether anyone else is facing similar issues? Is this common for a MBA interview? I really do want to go to Wharton but spending more than 3k + at least 3 days to fly and settle down - not sure how everyone else does this.

Also, to add on the question above, when I checked this morning, there are actually slots available on the 18th of Nov so def more slots are opening (sadly not the same for the hub cities...)

Anyone who knows anything about this please let me know (whether hub cities have more slots in the end or whether everyone who received the invitation last night or will receive next week have no choice but to fly to Wharton. I even checked London and its full full.

Well, two weeks have passed since they started sending out invites. 1 week is still remaining. I would imagine that most likely 2/3 of the invitations have already been sent out. Thats 66.67%. Worst case you can assume that 75% of the invites have been sent out.

Feeling too drained to work on my Stern Application. Freaking out about the 'creative' essay 3. Anyone else finding it difficult to stay focused.

I want to apply to Booth and Kellog rd 2 but I have to prep for Darden + Wharton interviews. And still can't believe Wharton is making me go all the way to Philly for a 30-min interview becasue there are no slots left in South America. This process is just... really draining.

from what i see there are no interview slots outside the US. This for me personally is a real pain because there is no way i can get the visa on time. I am not sure how they will manage these situations.

If you can't get a VISA on time, then I guess they would SKYPE with you. I called them and they said they can arrange skype for those people who are unable to leave their countries but that they don't plan on opening anymore slots in other countries.

I talked to a friend who is at HBS and he had to go to Boston last year because of a similar problem with slots so it doesn't seem like it's that uncommon.

I'm just not sure this is fair to all applicants. It feels like Wharton is favoring the people who got invited in the first day(S) considering the rest of us need to figure a way to get interviewed.

Do you guy think this is the case?? That the people that were invited earlier have better chances for admission than the later ones??

probably a normal 'tourism' visa? I think that's the easier to get...

Is it very hard to get a visa in your country?

In Brazil you can probably do it in 10-ish days...

Ankur mentions on the wharton website that the order of invites has nothing to do with the strength of the application. but i do agree with you, the fact that we need to figure out a way to get interviewed is not fair.

For those people who has received a CBS offer and are still struggling with figuring out a way to get interviewed by Wharton, do you think it a good idea to drop Wharton now? Is Wharton so materially better than CBS that we need to make so much more efforts in Wharton application? Just need some advice now...

Hi, thanks for this news! So if one can't get a visa, the school will arrange a skype interview or would it be like for those who live far away (mostly outside North America) and can't suddenly get a few days off at work will be included in this group? If you have any insights on this would be grateful if you could help me out. People are writing about the same thing on the admission community and nobody from the admin team wrote a reply yet. As this is the first year where there will be no alumi for interview available, really think that the school needs to either open up more slots or give an alternative option to applicants who live far far away

My friend who actually attends MBA (not from wharton though) comments that Skype interviews can be really awkward in a sense so think it is better for me to fly..

When you sign up for the interview, there is an 'instructions' screen with talking about arriving 15 minutes early, something about a resume, etc.

I am no longer able to pull up this page. Does anyone know how to? Or have the instructions listed on this page?

I'm definitely against skype interviews. I mean, those have to be super awkward. The lady on the phone used the words "extenuating circunstances" for skype. So it doesn't seem like they recommend it either.

What are the odds of getting in Wharton after being invited to an interview? Not that high? Do you guys think less invites are coming out this year since there is no Alumni interviews??

I'm going to arrange my trip to Philly tomorrow. It will be nice to see the school and all but would be nice to know what the odds are of getting in after the interview.

Anyone have any insights??
