Best of luck with your mock TBD this weekend and in the real thing in the coming weeks!
A few tips:
-Remember to introduce yourself! Ex - Hi Everyone, excited to meet you all - I'm Jen from Denver, CO and I run a boutique MBA consulting firm. (Quick/simple/inviting)
-Have a few ideas ready to share. Brainstorm at least 3 solutions, it is likely others will have a similar suggestion... be prepared to pivot or build on someone else's idea.
-If someone takes your idea, take it a step further. Ex - I had a similar idea to [name], and thought we could add...
-Take quick notes but don't be distracting. If you want to add on to someone's idea, it elevates the conversation when you use their name.
-What if someone freezes while explaining their idea? If the issue prevented the group from getting key facts or concepts, ask something like - Your feed cut out, what I heard was... did we miss anything?
-What if your connection goes down? Be ready! If you can join with a hard connection to your network, but have your phone ready with the audio call in number - rejoining via audio is an alternative that keeps you in the game versus spending time on your connection issue.
-Beware of time! The interviewers will cut you off! If no one else volunteered to be a timekeeper, you can. Give a 10 and 5 minute warning.

If you have an questions or want to prep with a Wharton Alum, let me know. :) JeniferT@ARINGO.com

Hi Everyone,

We will use the following topic for the mock TBD sessions that we are doing this weekend.

Quote:
Entrepreneurship and innovation are at the forefront of Wharton’s focus for the future of the school. Last year, the University of Pennsylvania announced a $25 million gift that will spearhead the construction of a transformative new building. Tangen Hall is the first-ever dedicated space for Penn Wharton Entrepreneurship and other student entrepreneurship programs across the University. Here students will incubate ideas to transform business. Completion of the new 70,000 square foot facility is set for fall 2020.

For the purpose of this discussion, you’ve been invited to be part of a team of students tasked with creating a one-day program that promotes the unveiling of Tangen Hall and Wharton’s focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. As a team, determine and define your target audience and invitation count. Identify and select a keynote speaker and programming for the day, including one interactive workshop and metrics for success. Provide unique experiential opportunities that highlight the depth and breadth of resources within Tangen Hall.

Also, I would like some help from you during the mock sessions. Once the session starts, I will take some 5-10 minutes to go through some logistic details. After that, I will put participants into break-out rooms of sizes 4-5 participants. All the breakout rooms will be open for 35 minutes during which the participants can practice their mock TBD's. Since I won't be able to monitor all the breakout rooms, please select a person who keeps a time check. You can follow the format as shown in the below video :)

At the start, every participant will get about 90 seconds to present their idea
Once all the participants have presented their idea, you can progress into the discussion.
At the 30th minute mark, I will notify you that we have 5 minutes left. Maybe you can start summarizing the discussion at that point in time.
After 35 minutes, everyone will go back into the main room and share their experience and learnings :) We will wrap up the session in about an hour.

I will see you all this weekend :)

I got the following advice from SiaAdmissions regarding Wharton TBD's

Quote:
All those preparing for Wharton’s TBD’s I recommend you prepare your pitch as a business professional. Meaning, approach the problem from various lenses as you would a business problem - you must remember that you have to emulate what Wharton expects a student to behave and think. Also, be very mindful of time. You do not want to be the person in the room who hogs time, and you all have to rush through the process. Therefore, write your pitch in advance, and present it to someone who is willing to offer constructive feedback.

I had the chance to attend the mock TBD scheduled by Nikhil today and it was fantastic. Everyone joined over the Zoom link shared by Nikhil who then split us into different breakout rooms.

We spent the first 5 mins introducing ourselves, then jumped right into the mock TBD. Since this was the first mock TBD for everyone we exceeded the time by 6 mins (I think). However, it was a great learning experience.

My biggest takeaway is that TIME is going to be your biggest enemy, which is why time management is super important.

I highly recommend everyone to join the session happening tomorrow (21st February). Thank you again Nikhil!
