Hello Everyone,
My name is Ankit Singh. I am preparing for GMAT since Jan 2020 (pandemic breaks and mental health/fatigue included). I am almost done with my prep and now following my practice session with gmatclub. Its been a big and tiresome journey so far with many ups and downs in the journey. My family (
I am married, so you can understand) was pretty exited in the beginning about my MBA however now they almost despair me.
Having said that I have decided to practice until June end 2021 (
despite the urge of writing the test and setting myself free from the internal chaos), and make myself acquainted to all the variety of questions I might encounter on the D day, and then appear for the actual test. My main reason to create this topic was to understand the current economical situation worldwide and take a few good tips from the fraternity in choosing the country and eventually the B'School.
I had clear thoughts about not choosing USA for my MBA. I wasn't biased nor had any prejudice about the country or its education system. I just did not want to follow the herd. Having seen my friends and some of the close relatives facing issues with their Visa process and extensions and stuff like that. I have seen some of them missing out on important situations of life like the death of closed ones or the wedding of someone in the family. They had to let things go. I was just not sure if I was ready to face such uncalled situations. Therefore, I decided not to do MBA from USA.
My immediate second thought(
being an Indian) was to choose an English speaking country to be on the safer side to land a job post the MBA/investment. I was left with 3 countries: Canada, UK, and Australia. So looking at the list of top 50 B'Schools Canada and Australia were not attractive enough. UK has some good number of B'Schools and has some interesting weather. Likewise I decided to do my MBA from UK, specifically from LBS.
Now comes the twist. One of my friends came back from the UK post the flights were open and people started to move back to their base locations. This guy asked me about my prep so far and my plans and other related stuff. We had an open discussion and there he shared with me the actual economical situation of United Kingdom(post Brexit, post pandemic). I am not very happy with my decision and I am obviously confused and unsure if my decision to choose UK as a county for my MBA is the right one?
Please pardon me for the long post. But if you survive reading so far, please help me understand the actual situation in UK and is it worth doing the MBA from there considering the amount of money spent on the MBA and ROI(
getting an actual job).
Also, what other countries/B'Schools should we look for during this critical economical situation. I am now skeptical and ready to choose USA for the country for my MBA. I will appreciate all the pointers with good reasoning. I will try to give KUDOS to all the replies on this post. If at all my post wasn't clear or my concerns are not well worded please ask for clarification instead of giving incorrect information.
I would like to make this thread as bookmark for similar people like me who get very little chance in life to fulfill their dreams.
Thank You
